📣We want to hear your story! Here's ours (read inside)
Mar 04, 2019Tessa's here! By now you should know what we do at Legal Creatives, but do you know why we do what we do? So let me share my story with you. I will also share 3 lessons from my creative journey. And then if you feel inspired to share your story, I would absolutely love to know your story too.
First lesson: Don’t aim to be the best, be different, be yourself.
In life, sometimes we don’t know which direction to take and for lack of better ideas, we take the path that is offered to us. Like you, I blended in the mold of a traditional law career. Until I decided it was time to create my own mold. And to create one for all of us that seek a new approach, with Legal Creatives.
See, 3 years ago, I was at a crossroads, torn between a traditional legal career and an innovative one. My research on creativity in the law was said to be very promising, and yet I was scared to leave the traditional path. Taking one step at a time on my own path, I overcame the fear. And eventually, I had the confidence to make this decision to build a career of my own, entirely dedicated to innovation.
So here I uplifted myself with fresh ideas, up in the air, flying to Buffalo, USA to immerse myself in creativity and innovation at the longest running creative conference in the world. That's the place where scientific research on creativity started more than 70 years ago. That's also the place where all theories and practices of Design Thinking take their origins.
I figured I could never influence the world by trying to be like it. So let's be our true selves.
Second lesson: Dream so big that they call you crazy.
On the plane to Buffalo, I reflected on my future. I wanted to do something meaningful, to positively influence others to do so, and to make a difference. Do you want to make a difference too? Then you need to have a transformative mission statement. And just like me, you can have one for yourself too.
All successful brands that make a difference in the world have a massive transformative statement. Microsoft empowers every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Google organizes the world’s information. Tesla's accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
Did you know that globally, 4 billion people are estimated to live outside the protection of the law? This means there are a lot of opportunities for those of you eager to make a difference. Whether you run a law firm or have the spirit of social justice, creative thinking and strategies can help you do better for yourself, better for your organization, and better for society as you can also contribute to reducing this gap.
With a clear mission statement for yourself and your organization, you will be surprised of what you can achieve. This is what I teach in the Online Academy, every week, to help you achieve that. The Online Academy is a continuous program for you to learn how to use creativity and design to make the legal experience you offer more attractive, engaging and outstanding.
Third lesson: Starting earlier is better than late and certainly better than never.
If you don’t know where to start, start somewhere. I started 3 years ago with a plane ticket to Buffalo that led me to write a 150-pages research paper awarded best research at the Law Faculty last year.
Now you can start learning all this with me in just one click.
The reason I wanted to share my story with you is because I want you to know me. And I want you to know that I can help you, too.
So please do me a favor? Tell me your story! I genuinely want to know what you hope to achieve and I will let you know if our program is for you. To share your story with me, all you need is send it to me by email at [email protected]
Follow me on LinkedIn, Twitter (@tessamanuello) and Instagram (@tessamanuello), as I will share in the next few days about what you can do to take your journey to the next level.
If you want a short-cut and start learning with Legal Creatives, I invite you to join the program now which is open for enrolment until March 11th, 2019. It's a continuous program that runs all year long, one week at a time to teach creativity and design in a legal context. Click here to discover the Online Academy.
I look forward to getting to know you better.
